Hypothyroid Treatment and Natural Thyroid Medication

One can hardly imagine the kinds of symptoms that the dysfunction of a pear-shaped gland, smaller than a quarter, can produce. Malfunctioning of the thyroid gland can often create havoc for the entire body since it is the gatekeeper for all metabolic activity that the body undertakes.

The production of hormones by the thyroid are regulated and controlled by Thyroid Stimulating Hormones (TSH) produced by the pituitary gland. These hormones regulate the amount of T3 and T4 hormones that are produced by the thyroid gland. The T3 and T4 hormones are responsible for regulating the entire metabolism of the body and therefore are extremely critical.

An imbalance in the thyroid hormone levels can cause various conditions to occur. One such condition is called hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism is a condition where the thyroid does not produce enough hormones.

Hypothyroidism can be diagnosed using a complete thyroid panel test. But given the large acceptable range for thyroid hormones in the blood, these tests do not provide conclusive indications of a thyroid malfunction.

There are various opinions on how hypothyroidism should be managed. Some feel that conventional medication that administers drugs is the best and most fool-proof method of thyroid treatment. But others feel that drug related therapies have many side effects and should be avoided at all cost.

The conventional method of treatment includes drugs that replenish the decreased hormonal levels. Thyroid hormone pills are administered with varying potencies based on the specific requirement of the patient.  Continuous monitoring is, however, mandatory given the nature of the medication and possible unwanted side effects.

Natural thyroid medication can help in restoring normal levels of hormones without any side effects.  Additionally, alternative thyroid treatments can prove to be as effective as conventional methods in preventing and curing thyroid conditions.
