3. What exactly does AfterBirth Drops do?

AfterBirth Drops is a 100% natural, safe and effective herbal remedy for after labor and childbirth that supports the natural production of oxytocin hormone to stimulate after-birth contractions, promotes natural delivery of the placenta, supports the body in its natural ability to shrink the uterus back to its pre-pregnancy size, helps to soothe the mother during the third stage of labor, promotes postnatal recovery.

4. What does AfterBirth Drops contain?

AfterBirth Drops contains the following 100% herbal ingredients:

  • Black cohosh (Cimicifuga racemosa) has been used for thousands of years by Native Americans - and some forms of the herb have also been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine. It has become more well known in the Western World through research on its supportive effect on hormone functioning and support of the female reproductive system. (Liske E. "Therapeutic efficacy and safety of Cimicifuga racemosa for gynecologic disorders". Adv Ther. 1998 Jan-Feb;15(1):45-53. Review.) Frei-Kleiner, S., Schaffner, W., Rahlfs, V. W., Bodmer, Ch, and Birkhauser, M. "Cimicifuga racemosa dried ethanolic extract in menopausal disorders: a double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial." Maturitas 8-16-2005;51(4):397-404. Black Cohosh can also help promote soothed nerves and support a state of relaxation.
  • Cramp Bark (Viburnum prunifolium) supports relaxation and helps to address common nervous tension. It has also been researched for its effects on the uterus and the female reproductive system. (Baldini L, Brambilla G, Parodi S. "Research on the uterine action of Viburnum prunifolium". Arch Ital Sci Farmacol. 1964 Jan;14:55-63).
  • Pasque Flower (Pulsatilla vulgaris) is widely used to help lessen common nervous tension - particularly useful during childbirth! Pasque Flower also supports stable mood and feelings of well-being - important after childbirth. It has also been used as a uterotonic - supporting a healthy uterus!
  • Fennel Seeds (Foeniculum vulgare) have been used traditionally to 'settle and calm' the digestive system - but can also support the body in its natural task of producing breast-milk. Furthermore, this herb also supports healthy digestion in babies. (Alexandrovich, I., Rakovitskaya, O., Kolmo, E., Sidorova, T., and Shushunov, S. "The effect of fennel (Foeniculum Vulgare) seed oil emulsion in infantile colic: a randomized, placebo-controlled study. " Altern.Ther.Health Med. 2003;9(4):58-61).

5. Is AfterBirth Drops approved by the FDA?

The FDA oversees all food and drug products. Since AfterBirth Drops is an herbal dietary supplement, it falls under the ambit of the FDA. In 1994 the FDA set up guidelines for dietary supplements, including labeling requirements, and created the Dietary Supplement Health Education Act (DSHEA). AfterBirth Drops follows all of DSHEA's guidelines. In addition, Native Remedies is an FDA-registered Food Facility, and all of our products are manufactured in a Pharmaceutical Graded, GMP-certified facility to guarantee the highest degree of consistency, reliability and potency.

6. What is the proper dosage?

Dilute drops in a small amount of water, juice or milk.

Adults: Take 5-10 drops in 1/4 cup of boiled water and allow it to cool (this can be prepared up to 24 hours beforehand if you like). Repeat after 1/2 hour if necessary.

Special instructions: Use during the third stage of labor (delivery of the placenta). Use under the supervision of a doctor, homeopath, naturopath, or midwife.

8. How do you properly store this product?

Best storage is in a cool (not cold) dark place out of direct sunlight, such as a cupboard or closet. The product does not need to be refrigerated.

9. What is the shelf life?

The product expiration date can be found on the label.  Please note: Some bottle types have the expiration date printed directly onto the bottle itself.

10. How long until results are seen?

AfterBirth Drops works almost immediately to support the body in its task of delivering the placenta helping you to relax and enjoy the bonding experience with your new baby.

12. How long does a bottle last?

AfterBirth Drops is formulated specifically for the last stage of labor (the delivery of the placenta) and one bottle is more than sufficient for one labor. The formula has a long shelf life when stored correctly, and the remainder may be used for subsequent births during approximately a 5 year period.

13. What is the third stage of labor?

The third stage of labor takes place soon after you have delivered your new baby and involves the delivery of the placenta and membranes which have been nourishing and protecting your unborn child for the last 9 months.

The third stage is the shortest stage of labor and generally lasts only 15-20 minutes. Contractions will be weaker and labor pains not as severe as the previous stages. Exhaustion is the most common problem! The excitement of holding the new baby often eases women through the delivery of the placenta, although many find that they are tired out by the time the baby has been born, and find it difficult to summon up the energy to deliver the placenta.

14. Can I begin breastfeeding before the third stage is over?

Breastfeeding should be started as soon after delivery of your baby as is possible.

The third stage of labor is an excellent time to put your new little one to the breast. This will not only encourage bonding between the two of you, but will also speed up delivery of the placenta and increase the tone of the uterus, preventing bleeding.

15. What else can I do?

The time immediately following your baby's birth, even before the placenta is delivered, is a crucial period for bonding. Of course, you will want to see and cuddle your new little one as much as possible, anyway. Most routine newborn procedures can be done without taking your baby away, so don't allow him/her to be separated from you at first, unless it is medically necessary. Procedures such as weighing and eye drops can be delayed for a while.

The most important thing at this stage is for you and your partner to relax and bond with the newest little addition to your family!
