What is Hemp?

Hemp is a variety of the Cannabis sativa plant species that is believed to be one of the oldest domesticated crops in the world. Hemp was cultivated for foods, oils and textiles, while marijuana was bred for its psychoactive properties and used for medical and religious purposes.

What is CBD?

CBD stands for cannabidiol. It is one of a class of compounds called cannabinoids that are found in cannabis plants and in the human body. CBD is non-psychoactive, it will not get you high. Current research suggests that CBD can activate the serotonin receptor that is associated in biological and neurological processes such as anxiety, pain, sleep, appetite, nausea and addiction. CBD is also known to bind with a vanilloid receptor known to mediate pain, inflammation and body temperature.

What are Cannabinoids?

Cannabinoids are a diverse class of chemical compounds that occur naturally in the human body and in cannabis plants. Cannabinoids found naturally in the human body are called endocannabinoids and those found in plants are phytocannabinoids. Over 100 cannabinoids have been identified.

Cannabinoids play an important role in the endocannabinoid system. All animals have an endocannabinoid system, also referred to as ECS. The ECS is a collection of cell receptors and molecules located throughout the body - brain, organs, connective tissue, glands and immune cells - with the goal of maintaining homeostasis, or optimal balance.

The endocannabinoid system was discovered in the 1990's by researchers trying to understand the effects of marijuana and THC on the body.

How Do Cannabinoids Work?

Cannabinoids and their receptors work like a lock and key. The locks are the receptors CB1 and CB2. CB1 receptors are abundant in the central nervous system - the brain and nerves of the spinal cord. The CB2 receptors are found in immune cells, the gastrointestinal tract and the peripheral nervous system.

Cannabinoid receptors play a significant role in regulating many bodily functions such as:

  • Sleep.
  • Appetite, Digestion and Hunger.
  • Mood.
  • Motor control.
  • Immune Function.
  • Reproduction and Fertility.
  • Pleasure and Reward.
  • Pain.
  • Memory.
  • Temperature regulation.
  • Inflammation, including neuroinflammation.

The keys to these locks, or receptors, are endocannabinoids. They tell your body when to start and stop these processes. Disruption of the system causes disfunction in some or all of the functions above.

The body does produce some endocannabinoids, but they primarily come through food, especially omega-3 fatty acids.

Along with the locks (receptors CB1 and CB2) and keys (endocannabinoids) enzymes play a big role in ECS function. Enzymes are the clean-up crew of the system. They breakdown leftover cannabinoids that haven't found a receptor to bind with.

Anandamide was the first cannabinoid to be discovered. It works on both the CB1 and CB2 receptors. It is critical for maintaining a healthy central nervous system. It is also called the "Bliss" molecule and had a calming effect on the system.

The FAAH enzyme breaks down anandamide and other endocannabinoids. It works quickly on your body's own endocannabinoids. CBD, a cannabinoid found in marijuana and hemp, stops the FAAH enzyme from breaking down anandamide, so it has more of an impact. This could be why CBD can help treat anxiety disorders.

Will I Get High From CBD?

THC is the cannabinoid credited with the marijuana high. THC is naturally occurring in the hemp plant in levels below 0.3%. If the THC level is above 0.3% the plant is classified as marijuana. Marijuana plants are bred specifically for their THC levels and may contain up to 30% THC. Native Remedies® Extra-Strength Hemp Extract uses a CO2 extraction process to remove all THC. All Native Remedies® Hemp products are third-party lab tested so you can be assured of purity.

Please check your state and local laws before purchase of CBD.

What are the Ingredients?

Native Remedies® Extra-Strength Hemp Extract is prepared with full-spectrum cannabidiol (CBD) extracts that contain a variety of cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids and other compounds found naturally in the hemp plant.

  • Premium Hemp Seed Oil - Hemp seeds are exceptionally nutritious and rich in healthy fats, proteins and minerals. They are rich in Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids with a 3:1 ratio of omega-6 to omega-3, which is considered optimal. They contain gamma-linolenic acid which has several health benefits including reduced inflammation. More than 25% of their total calories are from high-quality complete protein. Quinoa is another example of a complete, plant-based protein. Chia seeds and Flaxseeds are 16-18% protein. Hemp seeds are rich in vitamin E and minerals such as phosphorus, potassium, sodium, magnesium, sulfur, calcium, iron and zinc. They have been used in Chinese food and medicine for over 3000 years. Hemp seeds contain high amounts of arginine, which produces nitric oxide that dilates and relaxes your blood vessels, improving blood flow.
  • Full-Spectrum Hemp Extract Oil - Contains a variety of cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids and other compounds found naturally in the hemp plant. The full-spectrum extraction allows all the compounds in the plant to work together, just as nature intended. With a full-spectrum extraction, the results are some of the parts are greater than the whole.
  • Fractionated Coconut Oil - Fractionated coconut oil is a medium chain fatty acid. Medium chain fatty acids are transported directly to the liver from the digestive tract where they can be used as a quick source of energy. MCT's have been studied for health benefits including: Improved exercise performance (energy source), reduced insulin resistance, epilepsy treatment, and better brain function. However, more research is needed in all these areas.
  • Orange Essential Oil - Commonly used in the food industry for flavoring.
  • Stevia Extract - Stevia is a nonnutritive sweetener. It has almost no calories. Native to South America the stevia plant is a small shrub that has been used as a sweetener for hundreds of years.

How long until I see results?

CBD affects everyone differently. It is recommended to start with the lowest dose and increase slowly as necessary to achieve the desired result. Cannabidiol products affect males and females differently. Females may be more sensitive to cannabis and cannabis products. The normal fluctuation of female hormones may also impact the effect of CBD products.

The body produces endocannabinoids naturally. Diet, stress, lifestyle and your own biochemistry can all impact your natural endocannabinoid levels. If you have depressed endocannabinoid levels, you will most likely have a favorable experience when consuming CBD. Someone who has healthy endocannabinoid levels, may not feel the effects of CBD.

Get optimum results with regular use.

People can differ widely in their response times to natural remedies depending on individual makeup, lifestyle and diet. Some may experience a general feeling of wellness within days, while for others it may take longer before an effect is felt.
